Reflections on 2020: The Covid 19 pandemic was a trial run for humanity. A time for self-reflection and to take a deep and honest look into our souls. To ask ourselves difficult questions about what we find there. To either reject what is reflected back or courageously confront it. I learned that I love my country with all its flaws and imperfections. I love my country. I love Democracy and its institutions. I love freedom. But exercising my right to freedom and choice doesn’t give me the right to infringe on the rights and freedoms of others. I learned that tolerance for those whose opinions differ from my own is not something that flows easily from my heart. I must consistently remind myself that their feelings and beliefs are just as important as my own. Being a part of the human race requires a continual rejection of our most base instincts. The unwillingness to do so makes us no better than animals. I learned that heroes wear scrubs and stethoscopes. They sew masks for those in need and make cards for the elderly in nursing homes. Within a hero’s heart beats the spirit of the poor widow who had only one mite to give; it was the smallest of all Roman coins, and yet, she gave it freely. My hope for the future is that we hold steadfast to the lessons that 2020 taught us and that the spirit of the widow finds a home in all our hearts.

Peace and Love – Kimberly
